Day to Day:

What you'll be experiencing everyday

Day 1: Arrival and transfer from Porto airport to Vigo. Briefing.

Pick-up from Porto airport/hotel and private transfer to your hotel in Samil, by the beaches of Vigo. A member of our staff will give you an overview of the week-long hiking trip that will begin the next day. You can choose to relax at the hotel or to briefly explore the Samil's promenade.

Hotel for the night: Attica 21 Vigo or Pazo Los Escudos Hotel and Spa (included in the premium option)

Day 2: Hiking from Samil/Vigo to Redondela: 23kms/490m of elevation gain

Your journey begins in the vibrant city of Vigo, where you'll set off on a scenic stretch of the Portuguese Camino de Santiago. This first day offers a mix of urban and natural landscapes as you follow the route marked by the iconic yellow arrows. Start your hike from the historic port area of Vigo, breathing in the fresh coastal air as you walk along well-maintained paths. The day's route features mild elevation changes, making for a pleasant and manageable hike. As you leave the city behind, you’ll traverse through lush green areas and charming rural villages. One of the highlights of this day is the picturesque town of Cesantes, known for its beautiful beach and views of the Rande Bridge. Along the way, you'll encounter the tranquil waters of the Ría de Vigo, a perfect spot to pause and appreciate the serene surroundings. Continuing towards Redondela, you'll pass by the verdant landscapes and quaint hamlets that characterize this region. The day's journey culminates in the welcoming town of Redondela, famous for its traditional Galician architecture and vibrant local culture.

At the end of the hike, we'll transfer you back to your hotel in Vigo for the night, so you can relax for the next day.

Day 3: Hiking from Redondela to Pontevedra: 21km/373m of elevation gain

Your day starts with a private transfer back to Redondela, from where you'll resume your hike towards Santiago de Compostela. As you set off, you'll follow the familiar yellow arrows guiding you along the Portuguese Camino de Santiago towards the historic city of Pontevedra. The journey from Redondela to Pontevedra takes you through a mix of picturesque landscapes and quaint villages. The route starts with a gentle ascent, offering stunning views of the surrounding countryside and the Ría de Vigo. As you walk, you'll be immersed in the natural beauty of Galicia, with lush forests and rolling hills providing a serene backdrop to your pilgrimage.

One of the highlights of this day's hike is the crossing of the Roman bridge in the village of Arcade, renowned for its oysters and charming waterfront. The path continues through peaceful woodland areas and alongside babbling brooks, creating a tranquil and reflective atmosphere. As you approach Pontevedra, you'll pass through the scenic village of Ponte Sampaio, where the historic bridge over the Verdugo River marks a significant point on the Camino. The final stretch into Pontevedra is relatively flat, allowing you to enjoy the walk without strenuous effort.

Upon arrival in Pontevedra, you'll be welcomed by its well-preserved medieval old town, filled with vibrant squares, historical churches, and inviting cafes. The city's rich cultural heritage and lively ambiance make it a perfect place to rest and reflect on your journey so far.

Day 4: Hiking from Pontevedra to Caldas de Reis: 24km/540m of elevation gain

As you leave Pontevedra behind, you'll embark on a scenic journey along the Portuguese Camino de Santiago towards the thermal town of Caldas de Reis. The route from Pontevedra to Caldas de Reis takes you through a picturesque mix of lush forests, rolling hills, and charming villages. The day's hike features moderate elevation changes, providing a pleasant balance of effort and relaxation. One of the highlights of this segment is the serene walk through the Gándara Forest, where you'll be surrounded by towering trees and the peaceful sounds of nature. The well-marked path guides you past vineyards and farmlands, offering glimpses of rural Galician life. As you approach the halfway point, you'll pass through the quaint village of Barro, where you can take a break and enjoy the local hospitality. Continuing on, you'll cross the beautiful Lombo da Maceira, a scenic area known for its panoramic views and tranquil ambiance. The final stretch of your hike brings you into the thermal town of Caldas de Reis, famous for its natural hot springs and Roman history. Here, you can relax and rejuvenate in the healing waters that have been cherished for centuries. The town's historic charm and welcoming atmosphere provide a perfect end to your day's journey.

Day 5: Hiking From Caldas de Reis to Padrón – 25km/257m of accumulated height

As you set off on the Portuguese Camino de Santiago, you'll journey towards the historic town of Padrón, known for its deep connection to the Camino and Galician culture. The route from Caldas de Reis to Padrón takes you through a series of picturesque landscapes and charming rural areas. The day's hike features gentle elevation changes, making for a comfortable and enjoyable walk. One of the highlights of this segment is the tranquil pathway through the Valga Forest, where you'll be surrounded by lush greenery and the soothing sounds of nature. As you walk, you'll pass by vineyards, orchards, and small farms, providing a glimpse into the traditional agricultural life of Galicia. Along the way, you'll cross the beautiful medieval bridge in the village of Pontecesures, a perfect spot to pause and take in the scenic views. The path continues through peaceful countryside, dotted with historic churches and quaint hamlets.

As you approach Padrón, you'll walk along the banks of the Sar River, a serene stretch that leads you into the heart of the town. Padrón holds a special place in the Camino's history, as it is said to be where the remains of St. James were first brought ashore. The town is also famous for its delicious Padrón peppers, a local culinary delight. Upon arrival in Padrón, you'll be welcomed by its historic charm and vibrant atmosphere. The town's rich cultural heritage and significance to the Camino make it a perfect place to rest and reflect on your journey.

Day 6: Hiking from Padrón to Santiago de Compostela – 23km/437m of accumulated height

As you leave Padrón behind, you'll embark on the last stretch of the Portuguese Camino de Santiago, culminating at the magnificent Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. The route from Padrón to Santiago de Compostela takes you through diverse landscapes and charming villages, with a steady but manageable elevation gain. This final leg of your journey is marked by a sense of anticipation and accomplishment. The path initially leads you through scenic countryside, passing through small villages such as Iria Flavia, known for its ancient Roman roots and the Church of Santa María. As you continue, you'll encounter the peaceful woodland areas and open fields that characterize this part of Galicia. As you approach Santiago de Compostela, the route takes you through the bustling outskirts of the city and eventually into the historic center. The final ascent to the Cathedral is both challenging and exhilarating, as you walk the same path that countless pilgrims have taken over the centuries.

Upon reaching the awe-inspiring Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, you'll be greeted by its majestic façade and the lively Praza do Obradoiro. This UNESCO World Heritage site marks the triumphant culmination of your pilgrimage. Standing before the Cathedral, you can reflect on the significance of your journey and the sense of achievement it brings. You can trade in your pilgrim's passport for the Compostela certificate at the Pilgrim's office, as you have completed the last 100km on foot in this epic pilgrimage.

Day 7: Free day in Santiago – transfer back to Porto

Breakfast at your hotel, followed by check-out. Free morning in Santiago but, as a suggestion, at noon you can participate in the daily Pilgrims' mass, where you'll possibly be able to witness the “Bota Fumeiro”. At the scheduled time, transfer from Santiago de Compostela back to Porto airport or hotel.

However, all our tours are built to adapt to groups with different hiking experience, having shorter and longer options. For "expert" hikers, we provide additional challenges. Or you are welsome to take a day off; we invite all our guests on our guided tours to simply hop into our vans if they want to enjoy a recovery day.

1 BEGINNER

/ I walk/hike on a regular basis, for fitness. I prefer rolling terrain but enjoy reaching my goals and enjoy an active lifestyle. I like to overcome some challenges, but mostly enjoy the landscapes and atmosphere, going out on hikes up to 2 or three hours.

You will get to hike at your own pace, in moderate distances and hop on our van if you so desire or challenge yourself when you feel comfortable! You’ll get to walk in a group with like-minded people and accompanied by our guides, discovering the best of Portugal

2 INTERMEDIATE

/ Hiking is a great part of my life, and I walk regularly. I am comfortable with hikes of 3 to 4 hours, or even more at a relatively strong pace. I like to be challenged and to surpass obstacles, so that I can explore more and discover the most beautiful places.

You will get to explore different riding experiences, from tougher climbs to walking along in great company. You’ll have time to enjoy the great landscapes, but also enjoy the descents and push yourself climbing those tough hills. You’ll enjoy the variety of terrain, and pushing a little harder to get off the beaten path.

3 EXPERT

/ I am an explorer by nature and understand I have to push myself to get to the top of the summit. I love to climb, hike, do trail running and tackle big climbs to long, technical descents, especially the ones that allow me to push my limits and make long lasting memories. I love to spend the full day walking or even trail running.

You’ll get to hike or run the best Portuguese trails and push yourself as hard as you can, as at the end of the day, you know you’ll be able to rest and relax. Lead the pack and take on the special extra-challenges we have in store for you – try to keep up with our guides as you go for the extra mile just before your well deserved rest and massage at the hotel!
