Beginner doesn’t mean you need to be new to walking. These tours are designed for travelers who are comfortable being active for several hours but prefer manageable distances, moderate elevation and non-technical trails.
Difficulty depends on more than distance. Elevation, trail surface, weather and consecutive walking days all influence how demanding a journey feels, which is why we consider the complete experience when assigning each tour a level.

Portugal offers several excellent destinations for a more relaxed walking holiday. The Algarve combines spectacular coastal scenery with routes that can be adapted to different abilities, while Alentejo offers peaceful countryside, vineyards and historic villages.
In northern Portugal, Minho combines green landscapes, riverside paths and rural trails, while selected sections of the Portuguese Camino offer an approachable introduction to long-distance walking.
The right destination depends on how far you want to walk, the terrain you enjoy and what you want to experience beyond the trail. Explore our walking destinations in Portugal to compare the different regions.
Both guided and self-guided walking holidays can work well for beginners.
A guided walking tour gives you the benefit of local knowledge, companionship and support throughout the journey. A self-guided walking tour offers greater independence, with routes, accommodation and logistics prepared in advance so you can walk at your own rhythm.
The right choice depends less on your walking ability and more on how independently you like to travel. Explore our walking tour types to compare the different ways to experience Portugal on foot.
A memorable walking holiday doesn’t need to involve extreme distances or difficult mountain terrain.
At Live Love Hike, we believe walking is a way to experience a destination more deeply. A day on the trail can take you along Atlantic cliffs, through vineyards and countryside, into historic villages and eventually to a comfortable hotel and a great Portuguese meal.
Our beginner journeys are designed around that balance: enough walking to feel active and accomplished, with enough time and energy to enjoy Portugal beyond the trail.
