Portugal has reopened the country's borders to vaccinated U.S. citizens! On June 15, nonessential travel — which includes tourism — from the U.S. to mainland Portugal is now allowed for travellers with proof of a negative COVID-19 test. The information, made available to the public on June 15th, is now public and can be found at the US embassy website. Time to start planning your walking tour in Portugal!
According to the US embassy, from June 15th, "all airline passengers from the United States, including U.S. citizens, ages two years and older must provide a negative COVID-19 viral test taken within three calendar days of travel. Alternatively, travelers to the U.S. may provide documentation from a licensed health care provider of having recovered from COVID-19 in the 90 days preceding travel. Rapid tests are accepted but must be performed within 24 hours of boarding."
Why hiking is one of the safest ways to travel at the moment?
There are several reasons that make it the perfect way to explore Portugal.
- Most hiking tours are self-guided adventures or guided small, private tours.
All our tours can be booked as private guided or self-guided experiences;
- Hiking is a self-isolated activity - it only requires contact with nature.
Great options can be found hiking in rural regions with low population density like the Southwest Coast of Alentejo or Douro.
- Going outdoors is vital for your mental health.
- Hiking away from major cities - less (people) is more
- Most providers in Portugal operate under strict safety and health procedures.
Live Love Hike operates under "Clean and Safe" measures established by the Portuguese Tourism National board.
